The Isle of Lewis chess set is one of the most recognizable and beloved chess set designs, only second to the Staunton design. The Isle of Lewis chess pieces were first discovered on the Isle of Lewis, in the early 19th century. The set is believed to date back to the 12th century and to be of a Norwegian origin.
The Isle of Lewis chess set is characterized by its intricately carved figurines, which include kings, queens, bishops, knights, rooks, and pawns, each with distinctive features and expressions. Our Lewis chessmen, although smaller than the original, also have distinctive facial expressions.
